It's not yet clear when the show will return - but you could be on it.

Have you made a new year's resolution? Is it to appear on Love Island?

If so, then 2021 could be your time.

ITV2 began its search for a new batch of islanders today (Friday 1 January), urging 'vibrant singles' to put themselves forward.

Applications for the seventh series are now open.

The TV channel said: "ITV2 are looking for vibrant singles from across the UK who are searching for love!

"Our Islanders spend time in a luxury villa in the hope of finding love, but to remain in paradise they must win the hearts of the public and their fellow Islanders, who ultimately decide their fate on Love Island.

"If you think you've got what it takes, then we want to hear from you!"

The station didn't specify what it meant by 'what it takes', but if you've seen the show then you'll know good looks - as well as an appetite for drama and social media fame - is about the extent of it.

It is not clear yet when season seven will get under way, but all being well, it is thought it will take place this summer.

Applications close on 30 April and to be eligible you must be at least 18 and able to make yourself free for 10 consecutive weeks.

As part of the process, you have to submit headshots and full length photos, as well as a video explaining why you'd make a great islander.

Your application will have to be bloody good though, as only a very small percentage of contestants have been chosen through the application process in previous seasons.

Last series, almost 100,000 people applied for the show, but only six made the cut.

ITV chief executive Dame Carolyn McCall told Digital Spy: "On series five of Love Island to date (15 July 2019), there have been 36 contributors.

"Twenty-four were found and cast by the programme's casting team, six were put forward by professional agents and six came through the general application process."
