A bloke found out his online girlfriend of eight months was actually his housemate catfishing him. Watch the Catfish UK team investigate the bizarre case here:

Mario, who is originally from the US but now lives in London, met 'Hannah' on a dating app and quickly felt a spark.

The pair were soon chatting every single day, but whenever Mario asked Hannah to call him on the phone she'd give an excuse.

And, despite the fact she claimed to live in London, she also refused to meet up.

So, Mario called in the team from MTV's Catfish UK to try and get to the bottom of the mystery - and things took a pretty bizarre turn.

Hosts Oobah Butler and Julie Adenuga set about trying to find out exactly who 'Hannah' was, with a reverse image search revealing her photos actually belonged to a woman living in New Zealand who had no idea she was being used by a catfish.

When told the woman he had been speaking to wasn't the woman in the photos, Mario said: "I feel foolish, do they not have better things to do with their time than waste mine."

The trio attempted to call 'Hannah' but she hung up before sending Mario a text that read: "Catfish have just been in touch, if I meet you, do you promise I won't lose you."

They arranged to meet in a park, where it was revealed that 'Hannah' was actually Mario's housemate, business partner and former friend-with-benefits Courtney. Nice and complicated, eh?

Upon discovering who he had been talking to all along, Mario said: "I didn't expect to see you today. Out of everyone in the world I didn't expect you."

He added: "It's not real, this is way too much to take in."

Mario thought he was speaking to 'Hannah' but the photos belonged to a woman in New Zealand.

But it was very real - as were the feelings Courtney had for Mario.

She explained: "He's my best friend, and my roommate.

"We've known each other for almost five years now. I wanted to see what it would be like to be his girlfriend, because I am desperately in love with him."

Sadly, it wasn't to be - with Mario explaining that he loved Courtney 'like family' but wasn't interested in a relationship.

Catching up with the pair two months later, Catfish UK revealed the pair were back living together and were still friends.
