A Come Dine With Me contestant who became famous for shoving an entire whisk in his mouth has spoken out about the iconic moment, explaining what possessed him to stick the kitchen utensil in his gob. Watch below:

In each episode of the long-running cookery competition, we see the host prepping for their dinner party before guests arrive - often making dishes ahead of the bash to avoid spending too much time in the kitchen later on.

On his big day, wedding DJ Kev Riley decided to knock up a cheesecake, going all out with one layer of white chocolate and another of milk chocolate.

After mixing up the ingredients for the milk chocolate layer in a bowl, Kev decided to 'see what that tastes like', and grabbed the whisk he'd been using.

He then put the entire thing in his mouth... and not with much ease, unsurprisingly.

His episode first aired back in 2013, but Kev ended up becoming an unlikely viral star after the clip resurfaced on the internet - and he now says the reaction since has been 'crazy'.

Speaking on the Curios Cast podcast, Kev reflected on the hilarious moment - which was filmed the year his daughter was born, in 2012.

When asked why he put the whisk in his mouth, Kev replied: "Do you know what? Loads of people ask me that, and I don't suppose I know the answer."

He explained it was just something he did at the time to make a producer laugh, having built up a bit of 'banter' with crew while they were filming.

"It was just something I did to make her [the producer] laugh really," Kev said.

"And I knew at the time that I did it - because they all absolutely wet themselves laughing - I thought, 'That's definitely gonna be in the show.'

"And then when it was on, it wasn't something that everyone was talking about, but it was a couple of years later, the first time it got shared, and then a couple of years after that, and then it seems like it never dies.

"It's a strange thing - just when I think it's done now, I don't think anyone's shared it for a bit, then all of a sudden Lindt the chocolate company will have shared it, or Lee Evans shared it once.

"Then there's some bloke that goes in the Capitol building in Washington that looks like me.

"It seems whatever the news is at the time, it gets applied to that and re-shared."

He continued: "I suppose the disappointing thing from my point of view, from a selfish point of view, is I've made no money out of it whatsoever - and it's had over 100 million views on YouTube across different clips.

"And then there's people who have sold t-shirts, merchandise, people have sent me WhatsApp messages where their missus has bought them a Valentine's card with it on.

"It's gone crazy but I've never made a penny out of it. I don't think Channel 4 have really, or Come Dine With Me.

"It's just been a meme that's circulated really."
