Line Of Duty star Martin Compston has revealed he gets some pretty flirty messages on Instagram, including some he 'wishes he hadn't seen'.

The 36-year-old actor, who plays Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott in the hit series, has become a bit of a heartthrob with fans of the show sending him all kinds of DMs, including the odd marriage proposal.

Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show, he said: "The Instagram DMs get a bit out of hand. A lot of stuff I wish I hadn't seen. I need to stop looking at them."

When asked by the host for a bit more detail on the types of messages he receives, Compston added: "A lot of marriage proposals and a lot of proposals of other stuff from both sexes I must say."

But sadly for the fans who are hoping to get him up the aisle, Compston has been happily married to wife Tianna Chanel Flynn since 2016, with the pair welcoming their first child in 2019.

Elsewhere on the show, Compston also revealed that he's 'not naturally good at accents', despite the fact he flawlessly swaps his Scottish accent for a London one on the show.

He said: "It can be hard, that dialogue on its own would be hard anyway, throw the accent in there... the scene we did the other night, 30-pager, trying to juggle the accent at the same time. When we're away from it for a long time, when I do that voice I can hear him, it's like a costume."

To help keep the accent up, Compston said he records his lines and then listens back to them.

He added: "I walk about all day with him in my ears. It's just graft. I'm not naturally good at accents. I need to work harder, which then makes me better because I'm not complacent with it."

But he needn't worry too much, as some viewers were so convinced by his accent in the show they hadn't twigged he was actually Scottish.

Writing on Twitter, one viewer said: "I'm probably gonna get slated for this. But I nearly fell off my chair when Martin started talking. I had no idea he was Scottish."

Another commented: "Just watched last night's @wossy show..... am I the only one who didn't know @martin_compston is Scottish."
