WARNING: LINE OF DUTY SEASON 6 SPOILERS WITHIN

Last night's episode of Line of Duty was nothing short of gripping, even before a bombshell was dropped... followed by the closing credits of course.

But Martin Compston (who plays Steve Arnott) tweeted afterwards to let people know that the 'most important reviews' were in - from his folks.

The 36-year-old actor shared the evaluation from his parents and many people could relate to the difference between his mum and dad.

He wrote: "The most important reviews are in from my parents. My maw 'incredible son absolutely loved it' my Da 'it had an interview scene and car crash ya p****' keeps ye humble."

In response, one fan wrote: "Nothing like parents to keep you grounded lol. Fantastic episode! Killer having to wait a week for the next one!"

Another person added: "That's Scottish parents if I ever did see them. Translates approximately as 'we love you son and are very proud'."

A third wrote: "Cannae beat a guid Scottish family upbringing tae keep ye grounded." For readers outside Scotland, that translates to: "You can't beat a good Scottish family upbringing to keep you grounded". You're welcome.

In last night's episode we watched as DSI Ian Buckells (played by Nigel Boyle) was interviewed by AC-12 for having a convenient witness in Deborah Devereux (Kerri McLean).

Then Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) was informed that he was going to be forced to retire within a month - and AC-12 could be facing a major shakeup as well.

Kate Fleming (played by Vicky McClure) warned a newly promoted DSI Jo Davidson (Kelly Macdonald) that new recruit Ryan Pilkington had been spying on her before Davidson got him in her office to tell him he was going to be reassigned to another unit.

Probably not the best idea, considering the fact he held a gun to her head at the end of the episode.

Steve Arnott went to visit Jimmy Lakewell (remember, he was representing Roz Huntley in Series 4?) but Lakewell wasn't willing to give over any information relating to Gail Vella, hinting that prison staff would be listening.

This led to AC-12 getting Lakewell out thanks to a police convoy which was intercepted, resulting in a shootout with balaclava-clad gunmen.

At the very end of the episode, Arnott unveiled the results of the forensic analysis from Farida Jatri's house... he explained that the fingerprints (of Jo Davidson) share DNA with someone the unit had encountered before, meaning that they're blood relatives. Dun, dun, duuuuun.

This tweet from a dedicated viewer perfectly summed up the episode: "My son chose to phone home from Oz, 5 mins from the end. 2 weeks since I've spoken to him, but still had to reject the call. Priorities after all."

Must-see stuff.
