The dust has still barely settled after Scorsese's latest film The Irishman was released, but we already have news that he's likely to start filming a new movie with Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro in the next few months.

Word first surfaced of the new project way back in 2017, when it was announced that the 77-year-old director was looking at adapting the murder mystery book Killers of the Flower Moon into a movie, with the two actors in mind.

Cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto works with Scorsese on many of his projects, including his latest release, as well as The Wolf of Wall Street (which of course starred DiCaprio as well).

It's been a slow process, with the pair focusing on other things (The Irishman, for one), but in an interview with Collider, Prieto confirmed that their new project is very much set to begin.

He said: "Right now I'm in the process of researching different ways of shooting it so we still have to actually meet, and I'll show him images, propose ideas. He'll probably have his thoughts too, but we still haven't figured [out the tone of the film]. So, on the way."

The news outlet also reports that during their recent phone conversation, the filmmaker was actually in Oklahoma - where Killers of the Flower Moon is set - doing 'preliminary camera tests' and scouting for the project, which is expected to start in March 2020.

This would also makes sense, following the news that DiCaprio had a change of heart about a part in Nightmare Alley - as they are both set to start shooting at the same time.

Set in 1920s Oklahoma, Killers of the Flower Moon is about the haunting mass murders of Osage Indian tribe members after valuable oil was discovered under their land.

Over a period spanning 1921 to 1926, more than 20 members of the Osage tribe were killed, although some reports indicate that the number of deceased was actually in excess of 100.

Scorsese also told Deadline that the killer, William Hale, would be played by De Niro - marking the 11th time the pairs have worked together over the years.

The film will be DiCaprio and Scorsese's sixth time working together, with the pair having previously collaborated on Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island and The Wolf of Wall Street.

The release date for the film is still yet to be confirmed.
