A new film dramatising the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's decision to leave the royal family has been dubbed 'abhorrent' as the opening scene shows 'Meghan Markle' dying in a car crash surrounded by paparazzi. Here's the trailer:

The TV film, which will be released on 6 September in the US, opens as Meghan Markle (played by Sydney Morton) is seen to be 'dying' beneath an overturned car following a crash.

The scene - which has been branded 'tasteless' - goes on to show Prince Harry (portrayed by Jordan Dean) pushing his way through the photographers before pulling the door open.

Meghan, clearly seriously injured, begins to plead for her husband to help her before the scene ends and viewers see it's a nightmare that Prince Harry is having.

Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace will be the third made-for-TV film from Lifetime and it seems some aren't on board with the premise of it - specifically the opening scene.

One wrote: "This is in bad taste. I don't believe they can make a series like this!"

Another added: "I find this unnecessary and offensive," while a third commented: "This is SICK."

A fourth called the movie 'tasteless and abhorrent'.

Lifetime

According to the film's synopsis, it will dramatise 'the couple's controversial conscious uncoupling from the crown, after the birth of their son Archie'.

It goes on to say: "The movie details the struggles of the new parents and unique challenges of being part of the royal family, which ultimately led Harry and Meghan to give up their royal ties to forge a new life on their own terms."

The first trailer for the film shows several heated discussions between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, with Harry sharing his fears that his wife could be 'hounded to death'.

This is based on real comments that were made by Prince Harry during his Apple TV+ series where he said his late mother, Diana, was 'chased to death' and admitted he was scared of 'history repeating itself'.
