More Than £50,000 Of Coca-Cola Used In James Bond Motorbike Stunt

These days, blockbuster movies have vast budgets and technological resources, enabling them to bring to life spectacular scenes for our viewing pleasure.

But for a motorbike stunt in the latest instalment of James Bond, No Time to Die, the production team decided to quite literally splash out on Coca-Cola.

Yes, more than £50,000 ($68,000) worth of the popular beverage was chucked all over the cobbled streets of Matera, in southern Italy.

The logic behind the strange-sounding idea was to leave a sticky residue over the cobbles, meaning the 450cc bike would grip properly following a huge jump, which saw stunt double Paul Edmondson hit a 25ft ramp at 60mph.

Stunt boss Lee Morrison said the plan was hatched in a late night phone call with none other than James Bond himself, Daniel Craig.

Morrison told Total Film: "I spent nearly €60,000 spraying Coca-Cola around Matera.

"I've been spraying Coca-Cola on slippery surfaces for a very long time."

He added that there is the extra bonus of the drink 'making things look very clean after it washes off'.

Hmmm, might try it in the house now.

No Time To Die is Craig's final portrayal of the famous spy, but due to Covid-19, the release date has been pushed back seemingly endlessly.

Finally, we will get to see the film - and the sticky motorbike stunt - when it hits cinemas on 30 September.

A synopsis reads: "In No Time To Die, Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica.

"His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help.

"The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology."

The movie stars Lea Seydoux, Rami Malek, Lashana Lynch and Ana De Armas and is directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, with a script co-written by Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Danny Boyle was originally hired to direct but stepped away from the project over 'creative differences'.
