Netflix has announced that the second season of Narcos: Mexico will be premiering on 13 February - which, as I'm sure you've realised, is pretty damn soon.

The streaming service broke the good news on social media, telling fans: "Narcos: Mexico Season 2 premieres February 13 on Netflix."

The programme is the sister series to Netflix's acclaimed cartel crime show Narcos, which focused on the drug trade in Colombia, with the American Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) attempting to dismantle the drug trade in Latin America - largely led by infamous cartel leader Pablo Escobar.

Narcos: Mexico originally began as the fourth season of Narcos, but after seeing its success it was developed into a separate series exploring the rise of the a Mexican cartel's rise and fall during the 1980s, along with the drugs war this sparked.

Now we're onto round two, which Netflix confirmed was in the works last December.

According to The Hollywood Reporter a character called Walt Breslin (Scoot McNairy) - who was introduced in the season one finale - is set to become a major character for the second series, alongside the returning Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo, the leader of the Guadalajara cartel played by Diego Luna.

The series will continue to follow the corruption on both sides of the US-Mexican border, with showrunner Eric Newman telling THR: "To understand the current level of drug violence in Mexico you have to understand how it all started, and truly grasp America's integral role in it.

"The second season of Narcos: Mexico is a Pandora's box, the contents of which we still struggle in vain, 30 years later, to try and contain."

Alejandro Edda will also return as El Chapo.

Also on the bill for season two are Mayra Hermosillo as Enedina Arellano Felix, Sosie Bacon as Mimi Webb Miller, Andrés Londoño as Enrique Clavel, Alex Knight as Kenny Moss, Miguel Rodarte as Danilo Garza, Jesse Garcia as Sal Orozco, Matt Biedel as Daryl Petski, Jesus Ochoa as Juan Nepomuceno Guerra, Flavio Medina as Juan Garcia Abrego, Alberto Zeni as Amat Palacios, Jero Medina as Ossie Mejia, Jose Julian as Javier Arellano Felix, Noé Hernandez as Rafael Aguilar and Nat Faxon as Ted Kaye.

Narcos: Mexico season two will be available to watch on Netflix from 13 February 2020.
