Netflix Adds New Pin-Protect Feature To Block Content From Kids... And Freeloaders

Netflix has introduced a new pin-protect feature for profiles - which will act not only as a means of parental control, but also a way of stopping all those freeloaders.

While many of us might willingly share our details with a sibling or a partner, sometimes we end up regretting that decision. Maybe you and your boyfriend broke up, or perhaps your older brother is clogging up your 'To watch' list with too many crap action movies.

Well, Netflix is now letting its users set up a pin number to keep individual profiles as they were intended: for you, the discerning individual whose impeccable taste should not be tarnished with others' binging habits.

The new feature comes as part of a wider update to help improve parental controls, based on feedback from Netflix members.

However, it's not always just young children you want to keep out of your account, so it doubles up pretty perfectly as a means of booting out any parasites.

A statement from Michelle Parsons, Kids Product Manager at Netflix, said: "Everyone can now add these new, improved controls to their profile by going to account settings on our mobile or laptop.

"Choice and control have always been important for our members, especially parents. We hope that these additional controls will help parents make the right choices for their families."

If you want to set up a pin, simply sign in to your Netflix account and select one of your profiles. Hover over your profile picture, which you'll find in the top right hand corner, and click on 'Account'.

You then scroll down to 'Profile and Parental Controls', where you can select the profile you'd like to add pin-protection to.

Select 'Profile Lock', enter your account's password and tick the box, before creating a pin code and hitting 'Save'.

According to a blog post on the Netflix media centre, along with the pin-protected individual profiles, users can also: tailor their kids' Netflix experience by filtering out titles that are not appropriate for their age; remove individual series or films by title.

Users can also see what their kids have been watching within the profile created for them; and turn off auto play of episodes in kids profiles.
