Netflix Announces Ozark Will Return For A Fourth And Final Season

Netflix has announced that Ozark will be returning for a 14-episode fourth season, which will also be its last.

The final series will be split into 'two parts', each of which will consist of seven episodes.

Breaking the news, the streaming service tweeted: "Ozark will return for a fourth and final season, split across two parts - each of 7 episodes."

Netflix added: "Did the maths for you and it turns out that means there will be FOURTEEN more episodes!!"

While many fans were excited to find out that a new season is on its way, some were sad to hear that it would also mark the show's end.

One lamented: "Why is it ending such a great show surely there is a few more seasons left?"

Another begged: "Final series nooooooo!!! Such a brilliant show. Please do more than 4 series."

Since it first hit our screens in 2017, Ozark has been a huge success and follows a middle class family who get mixed up with a major criminal organisation.

Created by Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams, the crime thriller sees Jason Bateman stars as Chicago financial adviser Martin 'Marty' Byrde, who is forced to launder money for a Mexican drug cartel.

After the scheme backfires, Marty and his wife Wendy (Laura Linney) relocate to Missouri, where Marty sets up a bigger money laundering operation in the Ozarks - a mountainous region covering the southern half of the state.

The third and most recent season has focused on Marty and Wendy's marriage, with executive producer Chris Mundy telling IndieWire: "The third season to us is [about] what keeps you safe and whether or not hiding keeps you safe or attacking keeps you safe.

"In other seasons - between Season 1 and Season 2, certainly - we sort of left with a whole lot of plot we needed to answer, and we intentionally didn't leave ourselves with a whole lot of plot to answer for in Season 3.

"So it's more emotional within; we write everything through the marriage. So for us, it's all about that marriage."

No word on any release date for the fourth instalment just yet, but as always, we'll let you know as soon as we do. In the meantime you can catch all three previous seasons on Netflix.
