Netflix Confirms That After Life Will Return For A Third Season

As if it was ever in doubt...

Netflix has confirmed that After Life will return for a third series.

While that might not come as much of a surprise, given the popularity of Ricky Gervais' black comedy series, in which he takes on the subject matter of grief, Netflix confirmed the news with a simple tweet.

It's seriously simple, too. The streaming giant wrote: "NEWS: After Life will return for season 3."

Well, that's really all they needed to say, isn't it?

The show sees Gervais take on the role of Tony, a man who is struggling to come to terms with the death of his wife, whilst attempting to improve and better his relationships with the other - crucially, alive - people in his life.

After the success of the first two instalments, Gervais told LADbible recently that it is 'too good' not to bring Tony and co back for another run out.

He said: "I've never had a reaction like this, so there is that [sense of] 'Oh, I could only ruin it', you know what I mean. So you've got to try and make it better.

"Which is good, it's a good state of mind to be in, it's a good pressure. I've got to make this better than before - that's a lovely pressure to have as a writer.

"That's not a reason not to do a second series because the first one went down so well... Most people want it the other way - they want too many series because they think it's their favourite show."

"I get that, as a viewer I get it, but as an artist you have got to get out a bit early. But as I say, this is the first one I've - I think I'm gonna do a third because the world we've created is too good and rich."

Series two of the show only came out on April 24, but this news will no doubt come as a relief to the legions of fans who've been enjoying, and seeing some of their own experiences reflected, in the show.

Writing about series two, one fan said: "When I wasn't laughing out loud I was crying. An honest trek into loss, as life goes on. Ricky Gervais is amazing and what an ensemble of characters. Love every second of it."

Another said: "Gripping. Delivers. Delightful and fun while thoughtfully exploring what makes life worth living. Looking forward, hopefully, to a season three!"

Well, hope no more - it's happening.
