Netflix has dropped the first trailer for its Yorkshire Ripper documentary series, The Ripper. Watch the trailer here:

The four-part series charts the horrific crimes of Peter Sutcliffe, who died last week.

Outlining what we can expect from the series, Netflix said: "We hear from investigators, journalists, survivors and the victims' families on their stories, and how the prejudices and misogyny of the time played a part in these women being so tragically let down."

It is made by the same team that brought us Don't F*ck With Cats.

Notorious killer Sutcliffe spent almost four decades locked away in prison and Broadmoor Hospital for murdering 13 women and attempting to kill seven more between 1975 and 1980.

His five-year killing spree resulted in one of the biggest police manhunts in the UK's history.

His crimes caused women in Yorkshire to live in fear until he was eventually captured.

His 13 known victims were: Wilma McCann, Emily Jackson, Irene Richardson, Patricia Atkinson, Jayne MacDonald, Jean Jordan, Yvonne Pearson, Helen Rytka, Vera Millward, Josephine Whitaker, Barbara Leach, Marguerite Walls and Jacqueline Hill.

He died in hospital on Friday (13 November), aged 74.

Sutcliffe is the subject of a new Netflix documentary series.

A Ministry of Justice spokesperson told LADbible: "HMP Frankland prisoner Peter Coonan (born Sutcliffe) died in hospital on 13 November. The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman has been informed."

Sutcliffe had been 'suffering from underlying medical conditions prior to testing positive for Covid', according to the MoJ.

The Sun reported that Sutcliffe was taken to University Hospital of North Durham, but once there refused treatment.

Former police officer Bob Bridgestock, who worked on the case, told the BBC he 'won't be shedding any tears' over the death.

Sutcliffe's first victim Wilma McCann, 28, was hit with a hammer and stabbed numerous times.

Her son Richard McCann, who was just five when she was killed, told the BBC: "The attention he's had over the years, the continuous news stories that we've suffered over the years, there is some form of conclusion to that.

"I am sure a lot of the families, surviving children of the victims may well be glad he has gone and they have a right to feel like that."

The Ripper drops on Netflix on 16 December.
