Netflix Drops Short Film Showing David Lynch Interrogating A Monkey Suspected Of Murder

Classic Lynch...

A 17-minute-long short film that shows experimental director David Lynch interrogating a talking monkey, who may be a murderer, has been unexpectedly dropped onto Netflix.

OK, so that sentence is probably confusing as hell for anyone unfamiliar with the work of David Lynch, but those of you who've seen Eraserhead, any of the seasons of Twin Peaks, or - heaven forfend - Rabbits, will know what we're dealing with her.

The film is called What Did Jack Do? and it is shot in black and white inside a train station diner.

During the grainy short film a character played by Lynch that is not dissimilar to Gordon Cole, his character from the aforementioned Twin Peaks, but without the hearing impairment, talks to an anthropomorphised monkey about the primate's suspected crimes.

Again, non-Lynch fans have presumably checked out by now.

The alleged murder-monkey is credited at the end as 'Jack Cruz as Himself', but in reality we can't be too sure who actually voiced the primate. It could also just be David Lynch doing a silly voice.

Although this film has been dropped onto Netflix today - which, coincidentally or not, happens to be Lynch's birthday - it is actually a few years old.

The film was first spotted at a premiere in Paris back in 2017, and has also been spotted at New York's Festival of Disruption later on.

While, once again, we can't be completely sure what the point of this is, it could be a sign that Netflix is going to channel some of their seemingly bottomless monetary resources into a collaboration with Lynch.

That'll certainly set the pulses of Lynchian devotees racing.

Lynch hasn't released anything since the critically acclaimed Twin Peaks: The Return limited series event back in 2017.

However, he was recently honoured by the Academy and received a special Oscar statuette at the Governors Awards ceremony.

His speech was pretty simple.

He said: "Thank you all very much.

"To the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, thank you for this honour, and to all the people who helped me along the road."

He continued: "Congratulations to the other honourees tonight, and everyone have a great night."

Then, turning his attention to his very own version of the classic Academy Award design, he concluded: "You have a very interesting face. Good night."

Never change David. Never change.

What Did Jack Do? is available on Netflix right now.
