The much-anticipated show will be released on the streaming service on 5 November and will be comprised of 10 episodes.

Judging by the trailer, they certainly haven't scrimped on the guns and explosion for the final instalment of the crime drama.

The synopsis reads: "Set in the 90s, when the globalization of the drug business ignites, Season 3 examines the war that breaks out after Felix's arrest.

"As newly independent cartels struggle to survive political upheaval and escalating violence, a new generation of Mexican kingpins emerge.

"But in this war, truth is the first casualty - and every arrest, murder and take-down only pushes real victory further away."

Series regulars Scoot McNairy, Jose Maria Yazpik, Alfonso Dosal, Mayra Hermosillo, Matt Letscher, Manuel Masalva, Alejandro Edda and Gorka Lasaosa will return for the final instalment, while new cast members include Alberto Guerra, Luisa Rubino, Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio and Luis Gerardo Méndez.

Chatting to Entertainment Tonight about his role, Méndez said: "I cannot tell you that much because of obvious reasons. I'm just going to say that I am really excited.

"Narcos is probably one of my favourite shows on TV ever. I think it's so well written, the writing staff is amazing, they do such a deep research about every single thing.

"My character is a cop from Ciudad Juarez. I cannot tell you that much about the story but he's one of the main characters in the third season.

"But my character is complex, but I'm just going to say that my story is really, really urgent and necessary and painful. It's a really painful story that is still happening in Mexico.

"So that's why I wanted to jump on board and talk about this thing."

Former showrunner Eric Newman has stepped aside for the final season, with co-creator Carlo Bernard at the helm.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Newman - who served as showrunner for seasons two and three of Narcos and the two subsequent seasons of Narcos: Mexico - said: "I am grateful for my five years at the helm of Narcos and Narcos: Mexico, and immensely proud of what this spectacular team has achieved with these shows.

"When we began this endeavour - making a show in two languages, in a country that had never seen this kind of production - it seemed insane.

"But Netflix saw its potential then and their faith in us never wavered. Carlo Bernard is the first person I ever spoke to about this project, over 10 years ago, and I am extremely pleased to leave the steering of season three of Narcos: Mexico in his extremely capable hands."
