Netflix Has Cancelled I Am Not Okay With This And The Society

Netflix has announced there will be no second seasons of I Am Not Okay With This or The Society due to issues stemming from the coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement seen by Deadline, Netflix said: 'We've made the difficult decision not to move forward with second seasons of The Society and I Am Not Okay With This.

"We're disappointed to have to make these decisions due to circumstances created by Covid, and we are grateful to these creators, including: Jonathan Entwistle, Christy Hall, Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen and Josh Barry at 21 Laps Entertainment for I Am Not Okay With This; Chris Keyser, Marc Webb and Pavlina Hatoupis for The Society; and all the writers, casts and crews who worked tirelessly to make these shows for our members around the world."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix was 'pleased with the performance' of both shows but that 'uncertainty around production dates efforts to balance the needs and scheduling availability of a large cast (like The Society) and unexpected budget increases because of the pandemic prompted both cancellations'.

I Am Not Okay With This is based up on the graphic novel of the same name by Charles Forsman and centred on 17-year-old Sydney Novak (played by Sophia Lillis) dealing with all the usual ups and downs of high school alongside some newly found mysterious superpowers.

While The Society followed a group of teens who found themselves in a bizarre new, parent-free, reality.

After the news of the shows being axed was broken, devastated fans rushed to social media to vent. One person wrote: "No! I Am Not Okay With This ended with a cliff hanger. Now you're telling me it's cancelled?! What the..."

Another added: "Both series were amazing and I really wanted to see how both would come around in the second series. Why cancel due to Covid? Just hold off filming until they can start again."

While a third said: "No like I'm really upset that The Society and I Am Not Okay With This got cancelled. Like I'm convinced Netflix does this on purpose."

One fan has even set up a petition to try urge Netflix to save I Am Not Okay With This.
