Good news, festive film fans - Netflix has dropped the trailer for upcoming movie The Christmas Chronicles 2. You can watch it below:

The film will welcome back Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn as Santa and Mrs Claus, respectively, and it will be released on 25 November - giving us plenty of time to know it off by heart for a big Christmas Eve.

Netflix posted the new trailer, captioning the video: "Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn as Mr and Mrs Claus? Let's just skip Halloween. Your Christmas starts here."

And really, we are so ready for it.

The first one went down a treat with fans, quickly becoming an unexpected Christmas classic.

In fact, the movie was so popular it seemed that a sequel was pretty inevitable. And from the trailer above, it looks like we are in for just as much of a Christmas treat.

The original Christmas Chronicles follows young siblings and 'true believers' Kate and Teddy Pierce, who attempt to capture Santa Claus (Kirk Russell) on Christmas Eve.

However, their plan goes to pot and they end up crashing Santa's sleigh. They then join forces with St Nick to get the presents delivered on time - although as you might expect, it isn't as easy as that.

The plot of the sequel, The Christmas Chronicles 2, will revisit Kate, who is now a disillusioned teenager, and her brother Teddy.

According to Netflix, this time around Kate is "unexpectedly reunited with Santa Claus when a mysterious, magical troublemaker named Belsnickel (played by Julian Dennison) threatens to destroy Christmas forever."

Netflix

Back in 2018, The Christmas Chronicles had over 20 million views in its first week alone. According to Netflix's chief content officer Ted Sarandos, the festive flick was the 'most successful' movie of Russell's career.

Although Netflix traditionally doesn't release viewership figures, Sarandos revealed it'd had 20 million views across its first week at the UBS Global Media and Communications Conference, according to Business Insider.

He said: "If every one of those was a movie ticket purchase, that's a $200 million opening week. Even movies that go on to $1 billion don't typically do that in the first week."

As Netflix refuses to reveal official numbers, it's not known how many of those views were repeat viewings, but even taking that into consideration it's still a mind-blowing amount of accounts tuning in.
