The Stranger, Netflix's brand new binge-worthy crime thriller has been released onto the streaming platform today. If you've not seen the trailer already, check it out below:

The series is based on the hugely successful novel of the same name by American author Harlan Coben and follows protagonist Adam Price on a life-changing journey during which he discovers that his life up until that point hasn't been what it seemed.

What more do you need to know?

Oh, more? Alright then.

Adam, a father of two, discovers that his wife Corinne has been hiding a huge secret from him that chucks everything he knows about her into doubt.

He's approached by a mystery woman in a bar - always the best place to encounter a mystery person of some sort - who calls herself 'The Stranger'.

The Stranger herself.

She offers him some information that sends him on a deep dive into his wife's secret double life and headlong into a conspiracy that could break apart his entire family.

In the trailer, we get a glimpse into that secret. His wife was never pregnant at all, she lied to him.

While the trailer begins with scenes from the family's happy life, this lie threatens to tear the whole thing asunder.

How can we be sure The Stranger's bombshell is true?

As the eponymous stranger puts it: "Think of me as a stranger. A stranger that knows."

That clears that up, then.

After Corinne subsequently disappears, the police become involved and place her at the scene of a murder.

Intriguing stuff.

Richard Armitage does his best Liam Neeson impression.

The series stars Richard Armitage, who some people might know from Spooks or The Hobbit, as Adam, and Dervla Kirwan, who readers of a certain vintage might remember from Ballykissangel, among other things.

The title character, who Netflix describes as 'a mysterious stranger who exposes people's secrets, dropping bombshells that will shatter lives' is played by Ant-Man and the Wasp star Hannah John-Kamen.

There are some recognisable faces among the supporting cast, as well. Jennifer Saunders will play Heidi, and Siobhan Finneran (Happy Valley) will play DS Johanna Griffin.

Others making appearances include Paul Kaye (Game of Thrones), Anthony Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Kadiff Kirwan (Call the Midwife).

The show was filmed in the Manchester, Stockport and Bolton area between March and August of last year.

It's available to stream on Netflix from today (January 30). Get stuck in.
