Netflix has dropped the trailer for a new four-part documentary on the notorious Jeffrey Epstein, which will be available on 27 May.

In the new documentary, Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich, women around the world talk about the abuse they suffered at the hands of a man, who was a convicted sex offender, but had famous friends and powerful allies until his arrest in 2019.

The docuseries, which is created by Lisa Bryant, Academy Award Nominee Joe Berlinger (Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes), and author James Patterson, will look into the accusations that were thrown at Epstein prior to his trial.

A brief synopsis reads: "The series exposes a horrifying story of relentless manipulation and sex trafficking. Epstein's survivors serve as the series' pre-eminent voices, providing powerful testimonials about their experiences, and inspiration in their resilience."

Before he had chance to get to trial, Epstein was found dead in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York on 10 August 2019 aged 66.

The cause was given as suicide by hanging, though this is disputed, with the violations of normal jail procedures and his purported knowledge of incriminating information about rich and famous people leading some to believe he was murdered. Theories surrounding the circumstances of his death have circulated ever since.

Epstein was already a convicted sex offender.

He had been arrested on 6 July last year on federal charges of the sex trafficking of minors in Florida and New York and the case was still pending at the time of his death.

Filthy Rich isn't the only docu-series about the man we can expect this year. It was announced in January that the team behind Surviving R Kelly would be making a four-hour special about him too.

US cable channel Lifetime commissioned the series, which is expected to air in summer.

A&E, Lifetime's parent company, said in a statement: "Lifetime expands its footprint in the investigative doc space with development on Surviving Jeffery Epstein, centring on the billionaire New York financier who is alleged to have used his connections to the rich and famous to shield his predatory behaviour with young girls.

"Accused of sex crimes with minors and trafficking, registered sex offender Epstein allegedly hid in plain sight while enablers protected him for over two decades, until his arrest by the FBI."
