A new series in the Power franchise has been confirmed, which will focus on Tommy Egan.

Power Book IV: Force will see Joseph Sikora take on the role again, with Robert Munic at the helmas showrunner and executive producer.

TV network Starz will air the Lionsgate Television series, which will look at Tommy's story after he cuts all ties and leaves New York for good.

Starz President of Programming Christina Davis said: "Power has been one of the most successful series in premium pay television during its six-year run, garnering more than 10 million multi-platform views in its last two seasons and we can't wait to take fans in a whole new direction as we pick-up Tommy's story with Power Book IV: Force."

This isn't the first we've heard of the new show. In fact, Sikora dropped a few fairly heavy-handed hints about it earlier this year.

The 44-year-old actor posted a photograph to his Instagram account that showed him wearing a fetching baseball cap that read 'TOMMY SEASON ONE'.

He also wrote: "Who's READY?!!!!"

A Tommy spinoff was then part of four different series said to be in development by Power's executive producer 50 Cent back in February.

Other spinoffs include prequel Raising Kanan and Influence, which will follow Rashad Tate (Larenz Tate). Tommy spinoff Force was originally meant to be the fourth Power spinoff, but will now be the third.

Power Book II: Ghost stars Mary J. Blige and airs this Sunday (6 September) on Starz in the US and streaming service Starzplay in the UK.

The spinoff is set in New York, much like the first show, and will pick up the story just weeks after the OG series left off.

Starz president and CEO Jeffrey Hirsch said earlier this year: "In television history, only a select few shows have inspired four consecutive series extensions, launched into active production and development at the same time.

"These new and exciting chapters will continue the journey of some of Power's most controversial characters while featuring a growing ensemble of complex, distinct characters along with the high-octane drama that set Power in a class of its own."
