People reckon ITV should get Jeremy Clarkson in to replace Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain, following news this evening the 55-year-old has now quit the programme.

Morgan stormed off the set of the morning show today after clashing with colleague Alex Beresford over comments Piers made in the wake of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The clip was shared widely on social media, showing Morgan suddenly standing up from his seat and saying: "Okay, I'm done with this."

Earlier this evening, ITV released a statement which announced Morgan had quit the show, saying: "Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.

"ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add."

Now fans of the show are left wondering who might fill his shoes - both for tomorrow's show and beyond.

Many reckon Morgan's arch-nemesis Jeremy Clarkson could be a good shout - if anything, just for the drama of it all.

Clarkson, who reportedly once punched Morgan, even added fuel to the fire earlier today, tweeting: "People of America. You sent Piers Morgan back to the UK. Now look what we've sent back to you. Ha. We win."

Now people reckon he'd be the perfect fit for the daily morning show, with one person saying on Twitter: "Nothing would please me more than to have Jeremy Clarkson take Piers Morgan's old position on Good Morning Britain."

Another said: "Jeremy Clarkson needs to be the Piers replacement on Good Morning [Britain] please... Would be very decent."

A third wrote: "If I'm honest I always thought Jeremy Clarkson would be perfect for @GMB."

Some who disliked Morgan said they felt Clarkson would be just as bad, arguing that 'he's literally Piers 2.0', while others made different suggestions about who should be the new presenter.

Richard Madeley, who has previously featured as a stand-in for Morgan, has also featured quite highly in the Twitter chat, with one person joking: "Richard Madeley as Partridge as Madeley."

Another quipped: "Richard Madeley is getting his hair ironed as we speak..."
