People Are Freaking Out About Jason Momoa's Super Bowl Mortgage Advert

A Super Bowl advert featuring Aquaman star Jason Momoa has set the internet talking after some people were really freaked out by it. That's because it showed him relaxing at home and taking the weight off, quite literally. By which I mean, he actually strips off his muscles, and even his hair.

The Super Bowl isn't just a wholly bizarre and uniquely American experience - what with all the fighter jets, confetti, and patriotic fervour - it's also an opportunity for brands and companies to trot out their finest creative minds for the altogether-too-frequent and highly coveted advertisement slots.

Anyway, this year Rocket Mortgage decided to drag out Hollywood superstar Jason Momoa to make a commercial that is divisive and - at times - frankly disturbing.

In the short film, Momoa arrives back into his house and decides to slip into something a bit more comfortable. He takes off his boots, so far so normal, but then starts to systematically remove his biceps, and his chest, and the top of his hair.

The CGI is just out-there enough to make it look very strange. If you know about the existence of the 'Uncanny Valley' then you'll no doubt see very quickly that this advert lives right in there.

Hey, if you want to make an advert that is going to stick into people's minds, then there isn't really a better way to do it than this.

Naturally, it's a bit too much for some folks. You can get used to seeing a ridiculously hench film star in one light, but then to have all of that torn asunder by this?

Yeah, it's a lot.

Taking to Twitter, one person wrote: "This Rocket Mortgage commercial with Jason Momoa just shook me to my core."

Another said: "Lmao that jason momoa commercial got me f***ed up"

However, it's not so unpopular. A lot of people think it's actually pretty damn good.

One supporter said: "Oh man, that Rocket Mortgage commercial with Jason Momoa was great. I want more ads like that tonight."

Each to their own, I guess.

Anyway, the good (or bad, depending on your perspective) news is that this isn't likely to end soon. If an advert generates enough traction then it'll hang about for longer.

This might not be the last we've heard of this particular creepy commercial.

Oh well, it's still better than the Go Compare man.
