People Are Saying Ghostbusters: Afterlife Looks Like Stranger Things 'Rip Off'

We've only just had our first proper glimpse of the new Ghostbusters: Afterlife but people are already criticising it.

The eagerly anticipated new flick, directed by Jason Reitman, will see the stars of the original 1984 Ghostbuster movie, including Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver and Bill Murray.

The new movie also stars Paul Rudd, Mckenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard.

And it's the Stranger Things link that seems to have got people spotting potential similarities to the hit show and this movie.

One person took to Twitter to say: "I must be the only person who's not overly impressed with the Ghostbusters: Afterlife trailer. I'm kinda over the Stranger Things rip off stuff. But, that's just me."

But it's not just you, tweeter, because another added: "Why does the new Ghostbusters look like a rip off of Stranger Things? when they had that shot of the two kids walking down the road, I laughed out loud."

And a third chipped in: "Ghostbuster: Afterlife looks a bit meh. More Stranger Things than anything else."

But not everyone is mad about, one excited fan wrote: "The story of Egon's grandchildren finding out about his Ghostbuster legacy has completely sold me.

"Plus, Paul Rudd's going to be involved? HELL YEA! Getting a Stranger Things vibe from this which I am not mad about at all."

Others pointed out that it was kind of cute that Wolfhard had worn a Ghostbuster costume in season two of Stranger Things only to be cast in the Ghostbusters movie a couple of years later.

The movie is tipped to be released in July 2020, and, as yet, Reitman has managed to keep pretty tight-lipped about the story line.

Speaking at Ghostbusters Fan Fest in June Reitman said: "We wanted to make a love letter to the original movie.

"I did not expect to be making a new Ghostbusters movie. I thought I was going to be this indie dude who made Sundance movies.

"And then this character came to me. She was a 12-year-old girl. I didn't know who she was or why she popped into my head, but I saw her with a proton pack in her hand. And I wrote this story.

"This story began to form over many years actually. It started with a girl and all of a sudden it was a family. And eventually I knew this was a movie that I needed to make."
