Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield have had to explain to viewers why they can see people walking around on the streets outside the This Morning studio - telling them it's actually just a 'pre-recorded background from two years ago'.

Many people watching This Morning at home have been taking to Twitter to point out that, despite the nation being on lockdown, they can see people walking in a large 'window' behind the set showing inner-city London outside.

One person tweeted: "@thismorning Phil & Holly watching your show at the moment and the amount of people walking about outside your studio is absolutely worrying, what do people NOT understand about Stay at Home!!"

Another said: "Watching @thismorning and amazed by the amount of people walking by in the background. What aren't people understanding!!"

A third wrote: "I'm confused....while watching the show...you can see many many people walking around below the studio.....what is going on!!!!"

People have been confused by the background images used on This Morning.

But that window you see isn't actually a window, folks.

Responding to the concerns on social media about people not respecting the government's new social distancing measures, Holly and Phil explained the scenes were actually pre-recorded and are just on a 'very, very long loop'.

Phil said: "We should point something out.

"People saying, 'We're all isolating, we're all looking after ourselves and there's so much traffic going down the South Bank and people are still out walking."

Holly added: "And the boats!"

Phil continued: "We should say that when we were on the South Bank that was our view. Now we're in Television Centre, it's not. That was recorded two years ago.

"An it's on a very, very long loop."

Holly explained crew could do 'all sorts of cool stuff' and could even 'make it snow at the drop of a hat' - though not today.

Phil added: "It was spring for ages and we thought, to hell with it. Let's put some leaves on the trees, which is what we've done now.

"So yeah, that's not a live shot."

Well, I hope that's cleared things up. Keep social distancing, guys!
