As you may have noticed, the cast is lacking in Italians, and people wasted no time in calling this out on Twitter.
One person wrote: "No I'm sorry why is Chris Pratt Mario they literally could not have picked a worse person to play Mario."
Another added: "Imagine surviving two recessions and a pandemic only to have to endure Chris Pratt as Mario."
A third said: "So are we hoping that Chris Pratt tries to do the voice? Or that he just shows up and is like 'Yo. What's up? It's me, Mario'?"

Okay, I'm just gonna come out and say it; going from the Bob Hoskins Mario to the Chris Pratt Mario is a major de-evolution. pic.twitter.com/anCcJktseD

Pratt confirmed on Instagram that he will be attempting the Italian accent for the part, and said he had been 'working hard at it'.
The 42-year-old added that landing the role was a 'dream come true'.
Chris Meledandri, CEO of animation studio Illumination, said: "Mario and Luigi are two of the most beloved heroes in all of popular culture, and we are honoured to have the unique opportunity to work so closely with Shigeru Miyamoto [game designer] and the widely imaginative team at Nintendo to bring these characters to life in an animated movie, unlike any film Illumination has made to date."
The film is due to be released in the US on 21 December 2022, with international release dates yet to be confirmed.
