With last night's shock news that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were 'stepping back' from their royal duties causing ripples among the Royal Family and their supporters, you'll be concerned to know there are actually more important issues at hand.

One of those issues is whether or not Meghan Markle will now play herself in the Netflix series The Crown.

The series, which is now on its third season, follows the life of Queen Elizabeth II. The latest season was released on Netflix in November 2019 and is currently documenting 1964 to 1977.

The Crown is known for touching on sensitive issues, including Charles and Camilla.

Olivia Colman plays the Queen, and since she won a Golden Globe for her performance, it seems she's done a pretty good job of it.

But, now Meghan Markle has been freed of her royal duties, people are questioning whether she'll go back to her roots and pick up her acting career - and what better way to do it, than to play yourself.

It seems people are well and truly here for it:

Don't get too excited though, as the producer has said that it's not likely the show will ever get to the present day - it's likely they wouldn't get the all-clear to cover the Prince Andrew controversy.

Speaking to PA, Suzanne Mackie said: "To be honest, whatever the life of The Crown is after where we are now, I doubt we'll ever go as far into the present day.

"I think we'll probably... we won't travel into the present day."

That's not a definite no though, right?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced last night that they will be taking a 'step back' from their position as senior members of the Royal Family in order to concentrate on their careers.

In a statement released on their joint Instagram account, the pair wrote: "After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution.

"We intend to step back as 'senior' members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.

"It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment."

The couple announced the news on Instagram.

The Queen has officially responded to news that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will 'step back' from their position as senior members of the Royal Family, having said that the family 'understand' their decision but that there are also 'complicated issues' that need to be worked through.

A statement released by the Queen's office read: "Discussions with The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at an early stage.

"We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through."
