Pre-production has begun for the next instalment of Indiana Jones.

James Mangold (Ford v Ferrari) will be directing and Harrison Ford will be back to continue his much-loved character's journey, which has quashed any rumours that someone new might take up the mantle.

The release date given for the movie is July 2022 and fans are already excited with one writing: "OMFG, 2020 was worth it for this."

Another suggested that they move things forward, saying: "Harrison better not be the main star of this... hoping for a new generation Indiana."

A third added: "Nothing makes me happier than more Indiana Jones."

Harrison Ford will be back for a fifth film.

Earlier this year Ford sat down with CBS, who asked what the biggest challenge is when returning to such a role years later. The 78-year-old actor replied: "Trying not to look silly running around in tight pants and high boots."

He added: "I'll give you a more appropriate answer, considering that I'm going to start doing Indiana Jones in about two months.

"I'm always delighted to come back to these characters. We have the opportunity to make another because people enjoy them.

"I feel obliged to make sure that our efforts are as ambitious as they were when we started. You have a sense of responsibility to your customers."

Ford has starred as the character in all four films within the franchise, starting with Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981 and ending with The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in 2008.

The fifth entry will also see OG director Steven Spielberg on board as executive producer, and it seems like he's pretty excited about getting started, particularly the scenes filmed in the UK.

Speaking at the Empire Awards last year, he said: "It's always worth the trip when I get to work with this deep bench of talent coming out of the UK.

"The actors, and the crew, the chippies, the sparks, the drivers - everybody who has helped me make my movies here, and will continue helping me make my movies here when I come back in April 2019 to make the fifth Indiana Jones movie right here."
