You won't be surprised to learn it's of a similar tone to his Golden Globes material

As the biggest names in Hollywood prepare for the Oscars, they're probably feeling somewhat relieved that Ricky Gervais isn't hosting.

Gervais pulled no punches when he hosted the Golden Globes last month.

The comedian, writer, actor and director has carved out quite the reputation as Golden Globes host and was arguably at his savage best when he presented the 77th awards ceremony last month - his fifth and final time at the helm.

Many people will no doubt be a bit disappointed that he isn't doing the 92nd Academy Awards too. Fortunately, the 58-year-old has tweeted an example of how he might have opened the night - and the tone is very much on-brand.

Great stuff - and on the house too.

If that wasn't enough, he also offered up a second serving of sacred cow slaying.

Here's hoping Gervais decides to spend the entirety of the awards show quaffing champagne from his bath and tweeting alternative jokes and intros to those that will actually be shared on the stage at the Dolby Theatre.

If you're wondering who is hosting the awards, then the answer is basically no one - but also kind of everyone.

For the second year in a row, the night will be hostless, instead there will be a long list of presenters - including many previous Oscar-winners - who will preside over each category.

The full line-up of presenters reads as follows: James Corden, Penélope Cruz, Beanie Feldstein, Zack Gottsagen, Diane Keaton, Shia LaBeouf, George MacKay, Steve Martin, Keanu Reeves, Maya Rudolph, Sigourney Weaver, Mahershala Ali, Zazie Beetz, Timothée Chalamet, Olivia Colman, Will Ferrell, Gal Gadot, Mindy Kaling, Regina King, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Rami Malek, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Anthony Ramos, Mark Ruffalo, Kelly Marie Tran, Kristen Wiig, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Salma Hayek, Brie Larson, Spike Lee, Ray Romano, Rebel Wilson, Jane Fonda, Josh Gad, Tom Hanks, Oscar Isaac, Sandra Oh, Natalie Portman, Chris Rock, and Taika Waititi.

I did say it was a long list.

The question is, would you rather see all of them share the role, or just have Ricky Gervais?
