Ryan Gosling In 'Final Negotiations' To Play Ken In Margot Robbie Barbie Movie

It looks like Margot Robbie's Barbie film has finally found its very own Ken - in the form of Ryan Gosling, according to Deadline, which reports the star is in 'final negotiations' to play the iconic character.

"Given his busy schedule, Gosling initially passed on playing the part.

"But insiders add that as pre-production dragged out and the studio remained persistent with him being their only choice, an opening in his schedule appeared, allowing him to sign on," the entertainment outlet says.

They then added that the film now looks close to being greenlit, with the hope of shooting being 'at the top of 2022'.

Details of the plot are fairly thin on the ground at this stage, but we do know that Robbie will also be co-producing under her LuckyChap Entertainment production banner, alongside the company's Tom Ackerley, and Robbie Brenner and David Heyman from Mattel.

LuckyChap's Josey McNamara and Mattel's Ynon Kreiz are also on board as executive producers.

The Warner Bros flick is also being directed by Greta Gerwig, who co-wrote the script with partner Noah Boambach - the duo also being behind such previous films as Greenberg, Frances Ha and Mistress America.

According to Vulture, if production kicks off next year, there are plans to release the movie at some point in 2023.

When Robbie was confirmed for the project back in 2019, she said she felt 'honoured' to take on such a widely-loved character.

She told Variety: "Playing with Barbie promotes confidence, curiosity and communication throughout a child's journey to self-discovery.

"Over the brand's almost 60 years, Barbie has empowered kids to imagine themselves in aspirational roles from a princess to president.

"I'm so honoured to take on this role and produce a film that I believe will have a tremendously positive impact on children and audiences worldwide.

"I can't imagine better partners than Warner Bros and Mattel to bring this film to the big screen."

Responding to the news of Gosling's casting, many fans have been expressing their excitement for the forthcoming movie.
