WARNING: CONTAINS FREE GUY SPOILERS

Ryan Reynolds has revealed how the huge cameo appearance in his new movie Free Guy fell into place, having incorporated all kinds of Easter eggs into the film for fans.

Reynolds stars as Guy, an everyman bank teller who lives inside a video game called Free City as a non-player character. He suddenly becomes self-aware as the result of some extra coding by two of the game's programmers (played by Jodie Comer and Joe Keery), and soon Guy helps them rebel against Free City's new corporate owner (Taika Waititi).

But no doubt many viewers weren't expecting to see Captain America himself - aka actor Chris Evans - pop up in the movie after it was released last week.

Speaking to Wired, Reynolds explained how he called in favours, pulled off big stunts and borrowed references from Disney to help make the film go one step further.

He said: "When we got a scene that we felt might have been perfect, we always thought, 'OK, now it has to be 30 percent better than perfect.'"

Of all the surprises in the film, Evans' cameo may well have been the biggest, having suddenly appeared during the finale as Guy is fighting to save his video game world, at one point using Captain America's shield.

The in-fame fight then cuts to Evans, who is watching a live-stream in a coffee shop, saying in shock: "What the s***?!"

Reynolds told Wired that he managed to get the Cap to agree purely by asking.

He recalled: "He was in Boston and I texted him, and being the complete gentleman and stud that he is, he just got in his car, came down, and we had him in and out in under seven minutes."

Along with Evans, you'll also spot cameos from the likes of Hugh Jackman, Channing Tatum, John Krasinski, Tina Fey and even Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.

And all his efforts seem to have paid off, as Free Guy has not only gone on to be Reynolds' highest-rated movie, according to Rotten Tomatoes audiences, it already has a confirmed sequel on the way.

Breaking the news to fans, Reynolds wrote on Twitter: "Aaaannnnd after 3 years messaging Free Guy as an original IP movie, Disney confirmed today they officially want a sequel. Woo hoo!! #iron."

He added: "If it isn't called, 'Albuquerque Boiled Turkey' we've failed."
