Sacha Baron Cohen has shared some pretty intense footage that shows the real danger he put himself into in order to film some scenes in the latest Borat movie.

The footage shows Baron Cohen's infamous Kazakh character in the guise of 'Country Steve' in the aftermath of the 'March for Our Rights' gun rally, at which he performed a song about infecting former US President Barack Obama with coronavirus.

However, some of the folks at the meeting clocked onto the fact that the whole thing was a send-up, and the joke was on them, before storming the stage trying to get to Baron Cohen.

He walked quickly off the stage before heading to a getaway car - which was an ambulance - and can be seen holding back the doors as someone tries to get into the vehicle.

Remember, this is a gun rights rally. The people attending are presumably armed to the teeth.

He can be heard shouting 'drive, go go go!' to another person in the ambulance.

As we know, he made it out unscathed, but the British actor obviously wanted people to see the lengths that he was forced to go to in order to make the film.

He tweeted the clip with the caption: "This was not the easiest movie to make."

In a recent interview with Time magazine, Baron Cohen claimed that he was 'fortunate to make it out in one piece' from this - and other - segments of the film.

He wrote: "While filming my latest Borat film, I showed up as a right-wing singer at a gun-rights rally in Washington State.

"When organisers finally stormed the stage, I rushed to a nearby get-away vehicle. An angry crowd blocked our way and started pounding on the vehicle with their fists. Under my overalls, I was wearing a bulletproof vest, but it felt inadequate with some people outside toting semi-automatic weapons.

"When someone ripped open the door to drag me out, I used my entire body weight to pull the door back shut until our vehicle manoeuvred free."

Airing the footage for the first time on this Monday's episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, he explained: "This is the first movie where I had to wear a bulletproof vest."

He also told of how he employed private security for the bit, and they had to spring quickly into action once it was realised he'd been found out.

Baron Cohen continued: "One of the guys that stormed the stage went for his pistol, luckily enough there was a very brave guard who leaned in and said, 'It's not worth it, buddy.'"
