After the runaway success of the first season of The Mandalorian - the Disney+ Star Wars series - the showrunner and executive producer Jon Favreau has announced that the second season will arrive next autumn.

Given this late stage we're at in the year, that's really only a matter of months until there are fresh episodes to gorge yourself on.

Hell, Disney+ isn't even out in the UK until next March, anyway.

Favreau confirmed the good news on his Twitter account, posting a picture of a Gamorrean - an alien race that hasn't been sighted since Return of the Jedi in 1983 - with the caption: "Season 2 of #TheMandalorian coming Fall 2020"

So, given that this is the only thing that we've got to go on, let's look into the Gamorrean. We already know that they appeared in the third film in the original Star Wars trilogy, but what does that have to do with The Mandalorian?

Well, they were guards who worked for Jabba the Hut at his palace on Tatooine, so perhaps we'll see the Hutt Clan feature at some point?

Alternatively, they could just be travelling to the ugly space creature's home planet of Gamorr.

Really, who knows?

Because season one technically hasn't come out in the UK just yet - although a lot of people seem to have seen it somehow - there's no point in spoiling the events of the first set of episodes for anyone who hasn't managed to catch them.

To be fair, the news comes just a matter of hours after the finale of the first season became available, too. So, even those in countries where you can get Disney+ might still be in the dark.

What we can tell you is that the season is set after the fall of the Galactic Empire, but before the emergence of the First Order.

It follows the exploits of Mando - the aforementioned Mandalorian - as he roams the outer reaches of the galaxy where the rule of law is somewhat diminished.

It stars Pedro Pascal in the title role, Gina Carano as Cara Dune, Carl Weathers as Greef Carga, and - of course - Baby Yoda as himself.

If you're into it, there are other Star Wars stories in the works over at the House of Mouse.

There's a Cassian Andor series starring Diego Luna, who you might remember from Rogue One, and an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie which will see Ewan McGregor reprise his role from the second trilogy.

It's going to be a big year for Star Wars fans with a Disney+ account.
