There's no denying that Jason Alexander was fantastic as George Costanza in Seinfeld. The hapless George always got himself into trouble and we laughed along at every misstep.

However, the 60-year-old has put his hand up for a new role that could redefine him in Hollywood.

There was a lot of hype around who will be cast in the upcoming Batman film, which is already starring Twilight alum Robert Pattinson as the lead and Big Little Lies' Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman.

Jonah Hill was reportedly in talks with Warner Bros. about appearing in the film, however Deadline reports those discussions have come to a dead end. Many people speculated he could portray Penguin if he signed onto the project.

Seeing his opportunity, Jason Alexander reckons he should be considered in Hill's place for the role that hasn't been seen on the big screen since Danny DeVito portrayed it in Batman Returns.

Writing on Twitter, Alexander said: "Ok, Jonah Hill passed. Clearly the next move for Penguin has to be someone familiar with marine biology. Ahem."

Jason is obviously referring to the iconic Seinfeld episode where George pretends to be a marine biologist because Jerry told George's high school crush that's what he ended up doing.

The episode culminates with George claiming to have rushed into the ocean to rescue a struggling whale and pulled out a golf ball that was hit into the ocean by Kramer. Arguably one of the most classic Seinfeld episodes ever.

Jason had to post a follow-up tweet when loads of people thought he meant Jonah Hill had died and that's why he was ready to take on the role.

"OMG, 'passed' in Hollywood means 'didn't take the role' - not 'passed away'. Jonah Hill is alive and well. Sorry for the fright. And for future reference, 'bombed' doesn't mean 'exploded' in my biz. If it did, I'd be in pieces all over the world," he wrote.

Warner Bros.

We'll have to wait and see whether Jason gets cast as the Penguin - that is, if Penguin is even in this upcoming film.

Joining Pattinson and Kravitz, Warner Bros. has confirmed Paul Dano will play The Riddler.

The 35-year-old will follow in the footsteps of Frank Gorshin, John Astin and Jim Carrey in playing the DC Comics villain.

It was reported in September that the script for The Batman was complete. According to Variety, shooting will begin in winter with an expected release in June 2021 - so still a fair while to wait yet.
