Tom Holland's Spider-Man franchise has had a rocky road.

After two unbelievably successful movies, the series was thrown into disarray when Sony and Marvel couldn't agree to terms for a third.

But now it's been dealt an even more crushing blow by Disney.

Marvel/Sony

The Mickey Mouse Corporation has decided not to include Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home on the Disney+ streaming platform.

Disney+ head of content and marketing Ricky Strauss told The Verge: "We love our friends at Sony, but we don't have any plans to have the live-action Spider-Man movies on Disney+.

"We will have all the Spider-Man animated shows that we did so they'll be on there under the Marvel banner. But who knows what can happen in the future?"

No doubt this will be devastating to fans who were planning on playing the two films over and over until their Disney+ system broke.

While all the other Marvel films will be uploaded to the streaming platform, it seems like people will have to wait and see what Disney does with Spider-Man.

There could be room for the third Spidey film when it does eventually drop as it will be first in the franchise that falls under the new collaboration deal between Sony and Marvel.

Tom Holland was instrumental in getting the two studios together to ensure the survival of the franchise.

Apparently, the young British actor made a series of heartfelt and impassioned pleas to Disney - the owners of Marvel - CEO Bob Iger and Sony chief Tom Rothman urging them to find a way to get Peter Parker back into the MCU.

Marvel/Sony

A source told The Hollywood Reporter: "The star, 23, made multiple appeals to Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger and Sony film chairman Tom Rothman to reach a resolution, announced Sept. 27, for Marvel to produce a third Spider-Man movie for Sony, and for the character to appear in at least one additional Disney-Marvel film."

What's more, it worked.

Sony and Disney/Marvel eventually reached a compromise and Holland - who had also reportedly used his appearance in Sony video game Uncharted as leverage - celebrated by sharing a famous clip for Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street to celebrate.

You know the one - "I'm not f***ing leaving."

So we'll have to wait with bated breath to see whether Disney moves to include the third film or eventually the trilogy.
