WARNING: CONTAINS HUGE SPOILERS - ALTHOUGH YOU PROBABLY COULD HAVE GUESSED THAT FROM THE HEADLINE

Netflix viewers reckon they've spotted a key Easter egg in the first episode of Squid Game, having only realised later in the series when they found out more about one of the characters.

By now, you'll no doubt have finished the series, which has been binged by pretty much everyone across the globe in no time. If you haven't, click away now, because we're going to discuss some pretty huge spoilers. You've been warned...

In the final episode, we find out that Oh Il-nam, the 'old man' played by Oh Yeong-su, is actually the mastermind behind the whole thing, having orchestrated the deadly challenges to 'feel alive' after being diagnosed with brain cancer.

He had supposedly died in the sixth episode, having lost the marble challenge, but ended up returning in the finale for the big reveal, telling Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) that it had all be down to him.

After finding out about the revelation, many fans thought back to the old man's behaviour during earlier episodes - including the first, when contestants had to play the 'Red Light, Green Light' game.

In the challenge, the old man seems not only unbothered, but also appears to be actively enjoying himself, a huge smile etched on his face throughout.

He also doesn't get killed by the giant robot, despite moving, which viewers are only now realising was a pretty big giveaway.

Having realised the link, one person tweeted: "Squid Game spoilers but i should've known the old man was in on it the whole time because how could you still go forward during red light green light after everybody just got killed all normal like."

Someone else said: "The old man in Squid Game was not shaken in red light green light coz he KNEW... I hate him."

A third added: "Now I understand why the old man was so happy playing red light green light lol #SquidGame."

Others claimed they had already realised, with one saying: "I already knew the old man in Squid Game was suspect or a possible plant when his ass was SMILING during Red Light Green Light."

Another wrote: "Ian knew that the old man was the one behind the squid game because in the first episode during red light, green light the old man wasn't scanned by the doll...."
