It appears as though the sequel to Don't Breathe has wrapped filming - or at least, will be doing so very soon.

The news was announced on Twitter by Stephen Lang who posted to say that he had personally wrapped filming.

Given that he's likely to be the movie's central character it's fair to assume that the shoot is almost finished.

Posting on Twitter, Lang - who will be reprising his role as Norman Nordstrom or the 'Blind Man' - shared a snap of some Don't Breathe 2 merch, writing that he had completed filming the 'splendidly rugged shoot'.

As you can imagine, fans of the first movie were delighted with the news, with one person replying: "So happy this is getting a sequel! I absolutely loved the first movie!"

While another said: "I didn't even know this was happening, but I'm excited."

According to Bloody Disgusting, the sequel is set several years after the first movie, with the Blind Man moving away from the city after the home invasion that turned deadly.

However, his quiet life is shattered when his 'past sins catch up with him'.

The news outlet also reports: "In Don't Breathe 2, the Blind Man has been hiding out for years in an isolated cabin and has taken in and raised a young girl orphaned from a house fire.

"Their quiet existence is shattered when a group of kidnappers show up and take the girl, forcing the Blind Man to leave his safe haven to save her."

A sequel for the tense horror thriller has seemingly been in the works for years, with writer and director Fede Álvarez announcing he had something up his sleeve all the way back in 2016.

At the time, he told Coming Soon: "We know exactly where it goes, but we won't tell you right now.

"But there will be more Don't Breathe for sure."

Cryptic, eh?

In 2017, however, producer Sam Raimi was more effusive when he told IGN: "It's only the greatest idea for a sequel I've ever heard. I'm not kidding."

Which is about a bold a claim as you can possibly make, right?

He didn't elaborate on this, but hopefully it's enough for us to get excited about for now.

As yet there's no release date for the upcoming flick, which is rumoured to be called Don't Breathe Again, but we'll let you know when there's an update.
