While we're all partial to a takeaway or two, Supernanny Jo Frost was horrified when she found out one family forked out up to $4,000 (£3,051) a month on takeaway food - arguing that cooking from scratch is just too 'time consuming'.

Jo returned recently under her Supernanny guise to help parents in need over in the US, and went to visit Anthony Garcia and his wife Bethanie to see how she could improve things.

In the new episode of Supernanny USA, which aired yesterday (17 August) on E4, the couple tell Jo how Bethanie is the household's primary earner, while Anthony stays at home to look after their three kids.

Between them they feel as though their hands were full, meaning they've decided to save a bit of time by cutting back on the cooking, instead ordering in for nearby every meal.

Bethanie admits to Jo: "We usually order almost every meal just because it's harder to cook."

Jo then asks the parents why, and Anthony replies: "It's just very time consuming, it's so much easier to just go on the phone, order a meal. I enjoy cooking but it's just balancing time management essentially."

This takes Jo to her next question, as she probes Bethanie and Anthony on how much they spend each year buying takeaway food.

"Probably around three or four grand... a month," Bethanie says sheepishly.

A stunned Jo hits back: "So, the price of a mortgage for an expensive house?"

Speaking to the camera after the enlightening chat, Jo seems baffled at the set-up, and is left wondering why dad Anthony can't take care of the meals while Bethanie is at work.

She says: "Let's face it, there's no reason why Anthony can't go shopping and cook some healthy meals for the entire family.

"If he starts doing that, then he's going to feel really good about his contribution as a whole, being a stay-at-home dad."

Thankfully, Frost managed to help the family turn things around. Later in the programme, she takes Anthony and the kids to the supermarket, saying it would help him 'get a gauge on the type of foods he's going to need to buy weekly for the children'.

Anthony tells the camera at the end of the clip: "Today has been more productive than any day I've had since I quit my job."

Supernanny USA continues Monday's at 9pm on E4. Catch up on the rest of the series on All 4.
