Taika Waititi has finally responded to the photos that surfaced of him in what some claimed to be a display of affection with Tessa Tompson and Rita Ora last month - and insisted he's done nothing wrong.

The New Zealand-born director had the internet agog in May when he was spotted getting cosy with his reported new squeeze Rita Ora and Thor actor Tessa Thompson while out for drinks together.

Waititi and Ora are supposed to be an item but their supposed affection towards Thompson was what really got tongues wagging.

However, talking to the Sydney Morning Herald, the 45 year-old was dismissive of the whole situation.

Waititi was asked if he was upset that the pics had surfaced, to which he replied: "Not really

"I think in the world of the internet, everything goes away pretty quick."

He added: "And also, is it that big a deal? No, not really. I was doing nothing wrong. It's fine."

The director has recently boxed off his second Thor movie, following 2017's Marvel fan favourite Thor: Ragnarok.

Waititi's take on the franchise is widely thought to have been a shot in the arm for the franchise, which stars Chris Hemsworth as the Norse god of thunder.

Thor: Love and Thunder wrapped up filming at the start of June, with Waititi posting a heartfelt but humorous message on his Instagram to announce it.

"Sometimes two people come together to inspire the world and change the cinematic landscape forever," he wrote.

"And then there's me and @chrishemsworth who are too cool to care about anything except making movies that bring people absolute joy.

"Ok I don't look cool I know that.

"This film is the craziest thing I've ever done and I'm honoured to bust my ass and have a nervous breakdown so you can all see it in May 2022."

For his part, Hemsworth also posted about the forthcoming film, writing about an exchange with his son.

"Holding my little man's hand and asking him the age old question. 'What do you want to be when you grow up?'" the actor said in a post late in May.

He then added that his son had replied: "Dad i wanna be Superman," and jokingly added: "Lucky I have two other kids."

Thor: Love and Thunder is currently scheduled for release on 6 May next year.
