A new Amazon Prime documentary has revealed serial killer Ted Bundy had his brain removed after his death for scientific examination.

Bundy is one of the most famous serial killers of all time, having murdered at least 30 women during the 1970s.

Now, a documentary called Ted Bundy: Falling For A Killer allows for a 'female perspective' of the man to be told by his ex-girlfriend Elizabeth Kendall.

Bundy was known to target young women and girls, who he would sexually assault and murder. He confessed to keeping parts of the women's bodies as trophies and performing sex acts on them.

Bundy was eventually arrested and sentenced to death. His execution by electric chair took place in 1989, but his brain was preserved by scientists who wanted to find out if there was anything abnormal that could have been influential to his horrible actions.

Some research has linked brain injuries or abnormalities to criminal action. Bundy had previously described the act of killing as similar to an addiction to drugs, as well as saying whenever he felt the urge to perform one of his unspeakable acts it was akin to a 'chemical tidal wave washing through his brain'.

However, when the scientists got their hands on his brain they found it to be completely normal. There were no deformities, with no lesions or injuries at all.

Now, this new documentary attempts to tell the story of the women closest to Bundy. Specifically, Elizabeth Kendall and her daughter Molly, who saw Bundy as a father figure.

In the Amazon Prime feature, Elizabeth Kendall says: "This story has been told many times by men. Now is the time to talk about our own story from beginning to end, because we lived, and so many people didn't."

Director Trish Wood added: "It's time we stopped talking about him. I think everybody knows his name. Nobody knows who the women were.

"And I think that any future endeavours like this should focus more on the people who survived and who can talk about the culture in which it happened."
