The release date for season two of The Boys has finally arrived - it's going to drop down onto Amazon Prime Video on September 4.

They even released some sparkling and witty new video footage for fans to enjoy. Have a look at this.

The release date was announced at a live cast event hosted by comedian Patton Oswalt, and comes after the trailer was released late on last year before - you know - all of this happened.

Now, at least, we know when it's going to be out, and - when you think about it - it ain't actually all that long.

The big day was revealed at a live cast reunion called The Boys F***ing Reunited at which Oswalt - who is tipped to appear in season two - gathered a gang of stars from the show together to give the fans a better insight into what's going on behind the scenes.

If you want to give yourself a quick reminder, here's that trailer that they put out late last year.

The Boys became incredibly found fans amongst the critics and viewers alike for an irreverent take on the superhero genre, and this season promises to be a continuation of the last.

It stars Karl Urban as the leader of a group of foul-mouthed and quick-fisted vigilantes who are taking on an all-powerful group known as 'The Seven'.

It was created by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who also worked together on AMC's Preacher, and Eric Kripke, who brought us Supernatural.

The second season release date was announced online on the official Twitter account, that wrote: "We've heard your f***in' whining and moaning about 'when is Season 2' so here you go.

"See you on September 4th, mates."

So, it looks as if season two is going to pick up right about where season one left things. That means that Homelander (played by Antony Starr) is revealing the powers of his son, and Hughie (Jack Quaid) is saving the lift of A-Train (Jessie T. Usher).

Oh, and we'll get a bit more information on the special skills being shown by Billy Butcher's dog Terror - if you've seen, you'll know - in this series.

With the addition of Oswalt, we can also expect to see all of the familiar cast returning to their roles, as well as a larger play for Giancarlo Esposito, who has starred in Breaking Bad, amongst a host of other shows.

Roll on September 4.
