A contestant on The Chase has been dubbed the 'best' ever after managing to beat Mark 'The Beast' Labbett single-handedly, with host Bradley Walsh so impressed that he gave her a hug.

In yesterday's programme, which was a rerun from 2017, business manager Ali stunned viewers as she took on The Beast - successfully answering a number of questions that he'd messed up.

In one, Labbett had been asked which romantic poet wrote Endymion, to which he responded: "Shelley."

But Ali, 51, was able to provide the correct answer, saying for her response: "Keats."

She managed to race through the round to win herself an impressive score of 19, before finishing the episode with the £5,000 that was left in the jackpot - cash that was all for her, with no other players remaining.

Ali's incredible streak even impressed Bradley Walsh, who couldn't help but pull her in for a hug to congratulate her.

Labbett, meanwhile, told her graciously after being defeated: "You put me under pressure. Well done."

Viewers watching at home also had nothing but love for Ali's sheer tekkers, referring to her as 'amazing' and 'a machine', while some said it was the best performance they'd ever seen.

One person tweeted: "Best I've seen in The Chase well done Ali."

Someone else said: "Omg I've never felt so proud of someone on The Chase. GO ALI!!!!"

A third wrote: "Well done Ali on The Chase ... that was different class for a single player... #TheChase."

One also said Ali was a 'class contestant', while another commented: "I've just watched the best episode of The Chase going, Ali's smashed it."

The Chase was recently voted the UK's favourite game show, having come out on top in a LADbible reader poll last year.

The show battled it out against other popular programmes including The Million Pound Drop, The Weakest Link, Family Fortunes, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Mastermind, University Challenge, Bullseye, Deal or No Deal, Catchphrase, Golden Balls, Countdown, The Price is Right, Pointless and Eggheads, before going head-to-head against Tipping Point in the final.

Many of the fans were delighted that The Chase bagged the top spot, with one user commenting on Instagram: "Best of the best."

Another wrote: "Is this a shock to anyone?" while a third tagged a friend, writing, "Worthy winner? I'd say so lad!"
