The End Of The F***ing World Creator Says There Won't Be A Third Season

The End of the F***ing World returned to our screens at the start of last week, much to the delight of the dark comedy's cult following.

But if you've already binged through the second series then I'm afraid you've reached the end of the line, as the show's creator has said it won't be returning for a third season.

Charlie Covell - who based the show on the graphic novel of the same name by Charles Forsman - said she is 'done' with the programme.

Speaking to the Radio Times, she said: "I think, for me, that's it now. Yeah, that's done. I think to try and eke more out would be wrong, I like where we've left it."

The first season aired on Channel 4 back in October 2017 and received rave reviews from fans and critics - with the cliffhanger climax drawing particular praise. Indeed, many people feared a second season could only diminish the show.

As such, it comes as no surprise that Covell admitted she felt the pressure before season two was released.

She said: "Oh my god, yeah. Absolutely. Totally. I think there's a big part of you that's worried about what people think - but I worry and then I think, 'My God, the fact that I'm worried about fans' reaction to a show is a very nice problem to have'.

"There's pressure, but there's pressure because people like something that we all did together."

Covell said she hopes fans watch the whole of the second season before passing judgement on it, though she doesn't expect everyone will be pleased, because 'you can't write for what people want'.

She said: "Put it this way, if for some reason we hadn't been allowed to do season two, I would have been really gutted. Which I think shows that it was the right thing to do - for me, anyway. And I think I like where we end it [in season two], and yeah, it feels right for the story.

"But you never know, and you obviously you can't write for what people want. I think you have to work out what's right for the characters and the story - I sound like such a d*** saying that but I think you can't, you're not doing fan fiction."
