The first trailer for Netflix's Enola Holmes, starring Millie Bobby Brown as the titular character - and Sherlock Holmes' forgotten sister, has finally arrived.

Have a look and see what you think.

Netflix announced the trailer drop on their social media channels just a few moments ago, captioning their post: "She's the Holmes sister you (probably) don't know about, and she's about to outwit her brother in more ways than one.

"Millie Bobby Brown stars in Enola Holmes - only on Netflix 23 September."

The film is based on books written by Nancy Springer and tracks the fortunes of the infamous Holmes family from a completely different perspective.

Enola Holmes is the younger sister of Sherlock and Mycroft and - typical of the family - she also enjoys cracking crimes with her rapier sharp wit.

The film will be released at 8am on September 23 2020, and will be available exclusively on the Netflix streaming platform.

Netflix

The film is set in 1884, and begins with the 16-year-old Holmes waking up one morning to discover that her mother has gone missing.

Against the advice of her more illustrious brothers, Enola sets off to London to commence the search for her beloved mum.

Also starring Peaky Blinders star Sam Claflin as Mycroft Holmes, and The Witcher star Henry Cavill as Sherlock, the film tracks how Enola Holmes escapes the pull of the traditional finishing school upbringing befitting a young lady of her standing to embark on a treacherous path.

It also features Helena Bonham Carter as the matriarch of the Holmes clan.

The official synopsis reads: "England, 1884 - a world on the brink of change. On the morning of her 16th birthday, Enola Holmes (Millie Bobby Brown) wakes to find that her mother (Helena Bonham Carter) has disappeared, leaving behind an odd assortment of gifts but no apparent clue as to where she's gone or why.

"After a free-spirited childhood, Enola suddenly finds herself under the care of her brothers Sherlock (Henry Cavill) and Mycroft (Sam Claflin), both set on sending her away to a finishing school for "proper" young ladies."

Netflix

"Refusing to follow their wishes, Enola escapes to search for her mother in London. But when her journey finds her entangled in a mystery surrounding a young runaway Lord (Louis Partridge), Enola becomes a super-sleuth in her own right, outwitting her famous brother as she unravels a conspiracy that threatens to set back the course of history.

"Based on the beloved book series by Nancy Springer, Enola Holmes is a dynamic new mystery-adventure that introduces the world's greatest detective to his fiercest competition yet: his teenage sister.

"The game is afoot."
