There has been a lot of hype surrounding the Mortal Kombat film that had been slated for release in March next year. The movie has been years in the making and fans are eagerly waiting to see whether it reaches expectation.
But in the best news possible, the movie studio that has been bringing this video game to the big screen has announced that the release schedule has been brought forward.
We've experienced loads of movie setbacks in the past so the fact that the movie is arriving seven goddamn weeks early is a godsend.
Warner Bros has confirmed that the upcoming (new) adaptation of the brutal fighting game franchise will be released on January 15th, 2021. That's a whole seven weeks earlier than its original March 5th slot.

Keep in mind this the the release date for American viewers but hopefully that means the rest of the world can enjoy it earlier too.
Mortal Kombat finally started production in Adelaide, South Australia back in September this year.
Warner Bros has been trying to get a reboot of the franchise off the ground since 2011, however it wasn't until five years later that the project started to come together.
Mortal Kombat will be the feature directorial debut of Simon McQuoid, known in the film industry for his work on commercials for PlayStation, Halo and Range Rover. If he's done video game cross overs in the past, you'd hope that he knows what he's doing with Mortal Kombat.
Joining McQuoid is Greg Russo, who revealed that he'd finished the script back in February this year. Meanwhile, James Wan (The Conjuring, Aquaman) is attached to the project as a producer.

So far, so good in terms of the people overseeing the film.
The people we'll see on screen include actor and martial artist Joe Taslim (The Raid), who will be playing the antihero Sub Zero, Ludi Lin (Power Rangers, Black Mirror) is portraying Shaolin monk Liu Kang. Supergirl actor Mehcad Brooks has been cast as Jax, while Tadanobu Asano (Thor) is reportedly in talks to play Raiden.
While we know a bit about who will be starring, we've been completely left in the dark about the potential plot.
We highly doubt it'll just be back to back fights between the characters and hopefully there will be something so juicy that it will spawn sequels in the future - one can only hope.
