The Sinner has been renewed for a fourth season.

In a statement USA Network President Chris McCumber told tvline: "The Sinner has struck a chord with audiences with its signature 'whydunnit' style.

"In season four, we're excited to dig even deeper into the psyche of Bill Pullman's beloved Detective Ambrose character, while introducing our audience to a compelling, completely new mystery."

Jessica Biel - who was nominated for an Emmy, a Golden Globe, and Critic's Choice Award for her part in season one - is on board as an executive producer.

Although Ambrose has appeared across all the seasons, each one is a stand-alone story, centred on an unusual case.

And while it's exciting news for fans about a fourth season, viewers in the UK are yet to see season three.

The third season of the show, which aired on USA Network in February, will be available to watch in the UK on Friday 19 June on Netflix.

As yet, there are no plot details for the fourth season, but we do have a synopsis for season three: "The Sinner's third instalment follows Detective Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman) as he begins a routine investigation of a tragic car accident on the outskirts of Dorchester, in upstate New York.

"Ambrose uncovers a hidden crime that pulls him into the most dangerous and disturbing case of his career."

New to the third season, is actor Matt Bomer (who has previously starred in Will & Grace and Doom Patrol) and Chris Messina (The Mindy Project).

While we're not sure when the fourth season will be done and dusted, it does seem likely that fans in the UK will have to wait a bit longer than our pals across the pond, as with previous seasons it airs several months earlier in the US.

For now you can catch up with the first and second season on Netflix, ahead of the third landing later this week.
