After waiting for months and months, the third season of the gripping TV series The Sinner is here.

The show lands on Netflix Australia and New Zealand from today (June 19) and we'll finally get to see what Detective Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman) gets up to next.

The troublesome cop investigates what appears at the beginning to be a routine car crash, which we've known now in The Sinner universe is anything but 'routine'.

We'll be taken on a wild ride that will surely mess us up completely.

Turns out, it isn't any old road traffic accident. An interview with one of the witnesses tips Ambrose off that there might be something more sinister at play, and - as you might expect - he quickly finds himself digging deep into one of the most disturbing and dangerous cases of his career.

Matt Bomer, who you might remember from Will & Grace or Magic Mike, will star alongside Pullman as Jamie, a resident of the town of Dorchester in upstate New York where the action takes place.

Speaking after his casting was announced, Bomer said: "Words can't really explain the excitement I feel getting to be a part of a show that I'm such a fan of, not to mention working with this incredible cast.

"Also: it's really nice to be coming home to [USA Network] - can't wait!"

Two of the episodes in season three have been directed by Adam Bernstein, who has experience of directing episodes of Breaking Bad and Fargo, so should slot nicely into the universe of The Sinner with absolutely no problems.

After making its debut over in the USA, The Sinner was the most watched show on cable TV for the whole of 2017.

Jessica Biel - who is an executive producer on this latest series - also garnered numerous award nominations for her performance.

Whilst she's behind the camera for this latest outing, alongside showrunner Derek Simonds, we can still expect to see some stellar turns from Pullman and co.

There's more good news, too. A fourth season is already planned.

TV Line reported that USA Network president Chris McCumber confirmed the commission in a recent interview. He said: "The Sinner has struck a chord with audiences with its signature 'whydunnit' style.

"In Season 4, we're excited to dig even deeper into the psyche of Bill Pullman's beloved Detective Ambrose character, while introducing our audience to a compelling, completely new mystery."

That'll probably be out at some point next year.

Until then, get stuck into binging the latest season on Netflix as of today.
