The third season of Cobra Kai lands on Netflix today (1 January) - 2021 is already shaping up to be a good year.

The release date was brought forward a week, from the 8 January to 1 January, with Netflix tweeting: "EVEN MORE NEWS: Johnny has figured out the internet and brought this forward a week. Cobra Kai S3 arrives 1 January!"

The hit show, which has already been snapped up for a fourth season, is set 30 years after the Karate Kid movie and this season picks up where the second one ended.

A synopsis from Netflix reads: "Season three finds everyone reeling in the aftermath of the violent high school brawl between their dojos, which has left Miguel in a precarious condition.

"While Daniel searches for answers in his past and Johnny seeks redemption, Kreese further manipulates his vulnerable students with his own vision of dominance.

"The soul of the Valley is at stake, and the fate of every student and sensei hangs in the balance."

Cobra Kai stars William Zabka and Ralph Macchio reprising their respective Karate Kid roles as Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso.

Netflix originally acquired the first two seasons of the show, which were first aired on YouTube Premium, in June.

And since landing on the streaming giant, it's found a whole army of new fans.

So much so, that Netflix decided to make a third and fourth season.

Announcing a fourth season was in the works earlier this year, Netflix said: "Netflix has renewed Cobra Kai, the series continuation of the iconic The Karate Kid film franchise from Sony Pictures Television, for a fourth season."

However, star Macchio recently revealed to LADbible that he can see the show running for a whopping six seasons.

He said: "The writers have always felt they had six seasons in their head, where the story arcs can go.

"So that should all land when the time is right.

"You don't want to overstay your welcome, but the fans are having fun and there's more story there. As long as we're allowed to keep doing it, Billy and I are in."

While Zabka also let slip that the fourth season was set to start filming very soon: "We start work on it [season four] in a few weeks.

"And beyond. The show has a long way to go and we're really having fun with it."

Season three of Cobra Kai is streaming on Netflix now.
