Actor Elsa Raven, who featured in films including Titanic and Back to the Future, has passed away at the age of 91.

Her agent, David Shaul, confirmed the sad news to Deadline, with reports saying there are currently no plans for her memorial.

Raven, whose real name was Elsa Rabinowitz, died at her home in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

Having been born in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1929, she began her acting career in New York before going on to star in several blockbuster films.

Many people will know Raven from her role as Ida Strauss in Titanic, the elderly woman who embraced her husband in bed as water filled their room when the ship began to sink - in what has become one of cinema's most heartbreaking sequences.

Many fans have been paying tribute to Raven on social media, remembering some of her acting roles.

Referencing her character from Back to the Future, one person tweeted: "A small, but memorable role. Thank you for saving the clock tower."

Someone else said: "At least she was able to #SavetheClockTower. May she rest in peace."

Another wrote: "I watched her on General Hospital many years ago. My favorite of her roles was as Vinnie's mom Carlotta Terranova on Wiseguy."

Others referred to her as 'iconic', with a fourth adding: "RIP and my condolences to her family and loved ones."
