The trailer for a new dark comedy film from Netflix has just been released, and the ensemble cast is absolutely mind-blowing. Check out the trailer below and see what you reckon.

So, if we told you that there was a film coming out that starred Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Rob Morgan, Jonah Hill, Mark Rylance, Tyler Perry, Timothée Chalamet, Ron Perlman, Ariana Grande, Scott Mescudi, Himesh Patel, Melanie Lynskey, Michael Chiklis, Tomer Sisley, with Cate Blanchett and Meryl Streep, you'd want to see it wouldn't you?

Then, if we told you it was directed by the man who brought you Anchorman and Step Brothers, you'd be pretty excited, right?

Well, that film is here, and it's called Don't Look Up.

Director and writer Adam McKay has created this cinematic behemoth, which tells the story of a pair of astronomers who embark on a mission to warn the world about an approaching comet that threatens to destroy the planet.

Possibly the best news about this whole thing is that the film - after a limited cinematic release on December 10 - will drop straight into your living room on Netflix on December 24, which - as you're no doubt aware - is Christmas Eve.

Hopefully by that stage everyone will be a little bit tipsy, and ready to settle down for a decent movie and a bit of a giggle.

OK, we know you'll be in the pub, but it's still a good option for over the festive season, either way.

The two main characters are played by DiCaprio and Lawrence, with Streep featuring as the President of the United States, and McKay gave an interview to Entertainment Weekly outlining how he managed to get Lawrence to sign on the dotted line.

He said: "I've known Jennifer for a good while now.

"One of the first meetings she ever took in Los Angeles was with me.

"She is a massive fan of Step Brothers. I've been a giant fan [of hers] since she first came on the scene and she just straight up makes me laugh. So I wrote this role for her.

"She was the first actor in."

One seismic global event later, Leo followed suit. McKay continued: "Leo was interested and then the pandemic hit.

"So we used lot of the time during the pandemic to just go through the script, talk about his character. He's really smart, he really knows movies, he knows movie history, he understands characters, and it was very enjoyable."

For his part, DiCaprio said: "Adam has an unparalleled ability to spark conversation with humour and timely stories.

"I knew when I read his script that it was incredibly unique, as it struck an important chord concerning the modern world we live in.

"Adam has woven an incredibly timely message about society, how we communicate, our current priorities, and the climate crisis into an absurdly funny yet important movie."

Anyway, you can check out the trailer now. It looks like this is going to a big hit.

With that cast, you'd have to hope so.
