Stephen Graham has landed himself a role in the upcoming Venom 2, according to Deadline.

The sequel to Sony's Marvel Universe entry, starring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock and the titular anti-hero, has taken on the talents of actor and fledgling director Andy Serkis to helm the project.

Aside from Serkis promising Venom 2 will be an 'extraordinary piece of cinema', all details about the plot are currently being kept under wraps. So it goes without saying that the same rule applies to Graham's character.

However, you just know that whoever he's chosen to take on, he'll nail it like the acting chameleon that he is.

Having started out in indie movies such as This is England, Graham has gone on to prove himself as one of the UK's most talented actors, landing parts (and slaying) in shows such as Line of Duty, Boardwalk Empire and The Virtues.

He's also made his name in a number of Hollywood blockbusters, his latest release being Martin Scorsese's The Irishman.

Graham will be joining Michelle Williams, Woody Harrelson and, of course, Tom Hardy for the Venom franchise's second outing. Rumour has it that Naomie Harris of Skyfall fame has been booked too.

Tom Hardy starred as Venom in the first movie.

And while the cast and crew are keeping their cards close to their chests when it comes to any plot details, Matt Tolmach, producer of Venom and Venom 2, has promised it will continue to focus on the relationship between Eddie and his alter-ego.

Tolmach told Cinemablend: "The heart of Venom was always the relationship between Eddie and Venom.

"These two characters, these two sides that had to figure out how to live together and that were somehow better together than they were separately, or more successful, and what that meant."

Of course, one of the biggest questions hanging over the sequel is whether or not we'll be getting an MCU crossover with an appearance from Tom Holland's Spider-Man.

The infamous Web-head featured heavily in the comics alongside (and sometimes as) the Symbiote.

Marvel boss Kevin Feige did give a sort of positive answer for those hoping to see a Venom/Spidey crossover at some point down the line, telling CinemaBlend: "I think probably it's up to Sony.

"Sony has both those characters and, has Venom in their world. I don't know what their plans are for another Venom or if they're doing that. But it seems likely at some point."

Whether that 'some point' means Venom 2 is yet to be seen. But for now, at least we know we're getting Hardy back as Brock and the delightful Stephen Graham as... someone.

With a release date of 2 October 2020, we'll have to sit tight and wait for more details to trickle through in the coming months.
